New Delhi: An alleged terror module operating under the guidance of Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence has been dismantled by the Delhi Police Special Cell, resulting in the arrest of three suspected operatives from Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Madhya Pradesh.
The accused, identified as Asif alias Arish, Hurganpreet Singh and Vikas Prajapati alias Betu, are alleged to be closely linked to wanted terrorist Shahzad Bhatti, believed to be directing attacks against India from abroad. Officials said the trio had been in continuous communication with Bhatti while executing directives targeting the country’s security establishment.
Police sources said the detainees are connected to a grenade attack on a police station in Gurdaspur, Punjab, besides other blasts and covert activities aimed at destabilising national security. Intelligence inputs led to their capture before they could reportedly execute a fresh conspiracy.
A senior officer noted that video footage of sensitive locations was recovered during searches, suggesting that the group had advanced preparations for an imminent strike. “Their plans have been disrupted due to timely action,” a police official said.
Additional Commissioner of Police Pramod Kushwaha confirmed that questioning is underway and more arrests are not ruled out as the network’s links continue to surface. Investigators have traced communication channels routed through social media platforms used to relay instructions from Bhatti.
Bhatti, a native of Pakistan’s Punjab province, is believed to be currently operating from the United Arab Emirates. Reports indicate he possesses a Moroccan passport, enabling cross-border mobility while allegedly orchestrating operations on Indian soil. The police maintain that the crackdown has dealt a blow to an active terror apparatus attempting to fuel violence in the country. Further inquiries are in progress to uncover the extent of overseas coordination and local support structures tied to this network.
