Jerusalem, Mar 26: Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) naval commander Alireza Tangsiri has been killed in a US–Israeli strike in Bandar Abbas, Israeli media reported, citing an Israeli official. Tangsiri, who was responsible for the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, was one of the few high‑profile commanders to have long evaded such attacks after being in position since 2018.
There has been no official comment so far from Iran or the Israeli military on the strike. Tangsiri’s death comes amid a broader campaign in which Iran’s supreme leader and several other top figures and IRGC commanders have been eliminated in US–Israeli operations, yet the ruling system has retained its capacity to plan and wage war since the conflict erupted on February 28.
