Lebanon Apr 9 : Iran has blocked shipping through the Strait of Hormuz in response to Israel’s massive bombing of Lebanon, which killed at least 254 people and wounded over 1,100 in a single day, according to Lebanon’s Health Ministry. The surge in violence, hours after a US‑brokered ceasefire with Iran, has triggered warnings from Tehran that it may withdraw from the truce if Israel continues its attacks.
Iran’s state media said oil‑tanker transit through the strait, a key conduit for about 20% of global oil, has been halted, with more than 180 tankers reported inside the channel and hundreds waiting outside. While Israel claims the two‑week ceasefire does not cover its war with Hezbollah in Lebanon, Pakistan and many international actors insist Lebanon is included in the 10‑point agreement, which Iran regards Israel as violating. Aid groups and regional powers have called for a comprehensive ceasefire across the region, warning that leaving Lebanon under bombardment risks undoing the fragile truce altogether.
