Leh, Sept 30: The Ministry of Home Affairs on Tuesday ordered extension of complete suspension of mobile internet and public Wi-Fi services in Ladakh’s Leh district from September 29 evening till October 3, citing public safety and security concerns.
According to an official order issued by the MHA through Joint Secretary (Cyber and Information Security), mobile data services including 2G, 3G, 4G, and 5G, as well as public Wi-Fi networks, have been shut down from 18:00 hrs on September 29 to 18:00 hrs on October 3, 2025.
The suspension has been enforced under provisions of the Telecommunication Act, 2023 and Telecommunications (Temporary Suspension of Services) Rules, 2024, stating that due to “unavoidable circumstances,” immediate action was necessary to “avert public emergency and prevent incitement of offences.”
The order received approval from the competent authority and will remain in force across the entire jurisdiction of District Leh.
MHA order read, “In exercise of the power conferred by clause (b) of sub-section (2) of section 20 of The Telecommunication Act, 2023 read with first proviso to sub-rule 1 of Rule 3 of the The Telecommunications (Temporary Suspension of Services) Rules, 2024, the Joint Secretary (Cyber & Information Security) in the Ministry of Home Affairs, duly authorised by the Competent Authority ie. Union Home Secretary, being satisfied that, due to unavoidable circumstances it is not feasible to seek approval of the Competent Authority and in the interest of public safety and averting public emergency, it is necessary and expedient so to do in the interest of defence and security of the State, public order and for preventing incitement to the commission of offence, hereby direct to suspend the mobile data services of 2G, 3G, 4G, 5G and public Wi-Fi facilities 5G with effect from 18:00 Hrs on 2gth September, 2025 to 18:00 Hrs on 03rd October, 2025 in the entire jurisdiction of District Leh of Union Territory of Ladakh.”
