Indore, Mar 27: A software engineer, Shampa Pathak, was killed and several others injured in Sagar Township late Wednesday night when a man allegedly drove his car into a group of residents during a clash over the use of penthouse apartments for Airbnb rentals. The incident occurred at Sagarshree Enclave under the Lasudia police station, with chilling CCTV footage showing the car speeding down a slope and mowing down residents near the gate.
The confrontation began after residents objected to the frequent flow of outsiders, couples and strangers to the Airbnb penthouses and reportedly cut power to the flat. The flat owner, Kuldeep Choudhary, retaliated by switching off electricity to other flats, escalating the argument. Kuldeep and his 18‑year‑old son, Mohnish (or Mohit, as per some reports), then arrived at the scene, with the son allegedly assaulting residents and then driving the car into the crowd even as the gate was closed.
The car allegedly hit the victim twice, and the husband of the deceased, Saurabh, alleged the driver never applied brakes. A murder and attempted‑murder case has been registered against Kuldeep and Mohnish, who are now in police custody, as investigators examine CCTV footage and visitor records linked to the Airbnb listing.
