JEWAR (UP), JUNE 15 : Budget carrier IndiGo on Monday became the first airline to commence commercial flight operations from the newly inaugurated Noida International Airport (NIA) in Jewar, marking a significant milestone in the development of India’s aviation infrastructure and regional connectivity.
The airline’s inaugural flight arrived at Noida International Airport from Lucknow on Monday morning, while the first outbound service departed for Bengaluru shortly thereafter, officially launching passenger operations at the National Capital Region’s newest aviation hub.
According to IndiGo, the commencement of services from NIA will strengthen connectivity across Delhi-NCR and western Uttar Pradesh while expanding travel options for passengers. The airline plans to directly connect the airport with more than 16 destinations across the country.
The new services will also facilitate seamless one-stop connections between several city pairs, including Amritsar–Jodhpur, Bareilly–Bhopal, Bareilly–Jaipur, Dharamshala–Jodhpur, Chandigarh–Pantnagar, Jammu–Jodhpur, Jaipur–Dharamshala and Kishangarh–Bhopal, among others. The expanded network is expected to improve air connectivity between Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities and major metropolitan centres.
Speaking on the occasion, Aloke Singh, Chief Strategy Officer of IndiGo, described the launch as a landmark moment for Indian aviation.
“The opening of Noida International Airport marks a new chapter in India’s aviation story. Delhi-NCR now joins a select group of global megacities served by multiple airports. For IndiGo, being the launch carrier at NIA is not just a commercial achievement but also a commitment to western Uttar Pradesh, the wider NCR region and millions of travellers who will benefit from this new gateway,” he said.
Welcoming the airline’s arrival, Christoph Schnellmann, Vice Chairman of Noida International Airport, said IndiGo’s first flights marked the beginning of a new era for the airport.
“As our launch carrier, IndiGo will connect NIA to key destinations across India, offering passengers greater choice and convenience from day one. We look forward to working closely with IndiGo to provide a seamless travel experience while supporting the growth of aviation, trade and tourism in the region,” he said.
Strategically located along the Yamuna Expressway, Noida International Airport is expected to emerge as a major aviation and logistics hub, complementing existing airport infrastructure in the National Capital Region.
With the launch of services from NIA, IndiGo now operates from all three airports in the NCR — Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi, Hindon Airport in Ghaziabad, and Noida International Airport in Jewar — further strengthening its presence in one of India’s busiest aviation markets.
