ISLAMABAD, Aug 19: Pakistan has extended its airspace restrictions on Indian aircraft until September 24, according to a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) issued by the Pakistan Airports Authority on Wednesday.
The latest extension comes ahead of the expiry of the existing restriction on August 23. Under the new NOTAM, Pakistan’s airspace will remain closed to Indian-registered aircraft and aircraft operated or leased by Indian airlines and operators, including military flights, from 10:15 am on August 23 until 4:59 am on September 24.
The restriction covers both the Karachi and Lahore Flight Information Regions (FIRs), which together comprise Pakistan’s airspace management zones.
Pakistan and India introduced reciprocal airspace restrictions following the Pahalgam terror attack in April 2025, which claimed 26 lives.
Pakistan has since extended its ban periodically, forcing airlines to reroute flights and increasing travel times for passengers. The restrictions have also added to operational and financial pressures on carriers affected by the closures.
India, too, continues to enforce a reciprocal ban on Pakistani-registered aircraft, airlines and military flights as part of measures imposed following the Pahalgam attack.
The restrictions remain in place amid continued tensions between the two neighbouring countries, with airlines on both sides facing longer routes and higher operating costs as a result of the airspace closures.
