India Slams Pakistan at UN, Says World Has Not Forgotten 9/11, 26/11 and Pahalgam

United Nations, October 8: India on Wednesday criticised Pakistan at the United Nations over what it described as Islamabad’s contradictory approach to terrorism, asserting that the international community has not forgotten attacks including 9/11, 26/11 and the Pahalgam terror attack.

Exercising its Right of Reply during a discussion in the UN General Assembly’s Sixth Committee on measures to eliminate international terrorism, First Secretary at India’s Permanent Mission to the UN Raghoo Puri questioned Pakistan’s claims of combating terrorism while, according to India, terrorist groups continue to receive support from its territory.

Puri said terrorism cannot be defeated through statements alone and called for action against those who perpetrate, organise, finance or support terrorist activities.

He also criticised Pakistan over its recent announcement of a reward for information leading to the capture of Jaish-e-Mohammed chief Masood Azhar, who is listed as a terrorist by the UN. India has long accused Pakistan of providing shelter to Azhar, while Islamabad has maintained that he is in Afghanistan.

Puri said Pakistan had previously described the Jaish-e-Mohammed as a defunct organisation, arguing that its recent actions raise questions about the credibility of such claims.

Referring to the April 22, 2025 Pahalgam terror attack, Puri said the assault, in which 26 civilians were killed, was followed by India’s Operation Sindoor targeting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

He also recalled the 9/11 attacks in the United States and the 26/11 Mumbai attacks, saying the international community continues to remember the victims of terrorism.

“The world has not forgotten 9/11. The world has not forgotten 26/11. The world has not forgotten Pahalgam,” Puri said.

He further accused Pakistan of relying on misinformation and narrative-building instead of taking concrete steps against terrorism.

Puri stressed that an effective global strategy against terrorism must establish responsibility and accountability, adding that India would continue to take measures to protect its people and that terrorism against India would have consequences.

In a second Right of Reply, he rejected what he called Pakistan’s “circular economy” of narratives and said greater focus should be placed on countering terrorism rather than political messaging.
