NEW DELHI, Jan 22: India was among several major nations absent when US President Donald Trump unveiled his “Board of Peace” at Davos on Thursday, aimed at securing lasting peace in Gaza and potentially resolving global conflicts.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi received an invitation from Trump to join the board, announced as part of phase two of the Israel-Hamas ceasefire, but India has yet to respond.
France, UK, China, Germany, and others skipped the signing ceremony held on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum. Sources indicate New Delhi is carefully evaluating the proposal due to its sensitive geopolitical implications.
India has consistently advocated a two-state solution for lasting Israel-Palestine peace.
Joining nations include Argentina, Egypt, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, UAE, and Vietnam. Germany, Russia, Turkiye, Ukraine, and others remain non-committal.
The board, led by heads of state under Trump, oversees Trump’s 20-point Gaza redevelopment plan to create a deradicalized zone. Its executive committee features Marco Rubio, Tony Blair, Jared Kushner, Ajay Banga, and others, managing a National Committee for Gaza Administration.
The charter emphasizes pragmatic solutions over failed institutions, sparking speculation of challenging UN authority.
