New Delhi, Jan 13: External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar unveiled four core priorities—resilience, innovation, cooperation, and sustainability—for India’s BRICS 2026 Chairship during the launch of the group’s logo and official website.
These priorities will underpin BRICS activities across its three pillars: political and security, economic and financial, and cultural/people-to-people exchanges. Under resilience, India aims to strengthen agriculture, health, disaster risk reduction, energy, and supply chains through collective frameworks.
Jaishankar highlighted innovation as key to addressing socio-economic challenges for developing nations via new technologies, startups, and MSMEs. Cooperation will advance equitable global partnerships, while sustainability efforts prioritize fair climate action, clean energy, and development pathways.
The new BRICS logo blends tradition and modernity, featuring petals in member countries’ colors to symbolize unity in diversity. The BRICS India website will facilitate information sharing on meetings, initiatives, and outcomes during the chairship.
BRICS originated from a 2001 Goldman Sachs paper projecting Brazil, Russia, India, and China’s economic rise. South Africa joined in 2011, followed by expansions in 2024 (Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, UAE) and 2025 (Indonesia), with recent partner countries including Belarus, Bolivia, Kazakhstan, Cuba, Malaysia, Nigeria, Thailand, Uganda, and Uzbekistan.
