New Delhi, March 7: Domestic LPG prices jumped by a steep Rs 60 per 14.2-kg cylinder, while commercial cylinders rose Rs 114.5 per 19-kg unit, driven by soaring global energy costs from the West Asia conflict.
Non-subsidised LPG, used by most households outside the Ujjwala scheme, now costs Rs 913 in Delhi—up from Rs 853—according to the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) website. This marks the second hike in under a year, following a Rs 50 increase last April.
Industry sources point to spiking international energy prices since the West Asia flare-up. Even so, they note India’s cooking gas remains the cheapest among neighbors.
Prices vary by state due to local taxes: Rs 912.50 in Mumbai, Rs 939 in Kolkata, and Rs 928.50 in Chennai.
Ujjwala beneficiaries—over 10 crore low-income families since 2016—keep their Rs 300 subsidy per cylinder for up to 12 annual refills.
Commercial LPG, popular with hotels and eateries, hit Rs 1,883 in Delhi after this hike, building on a Rs 28 rise on March 1. Rates are up Rs 302.50 so far this year.
