NEW DELHI, Dec 21: Jailed former Pakistan PM Imran Khan called for nationwide protests Saturday after receiving a 17-year sentence alongside wife Bushra Bibi in the Toshakhana-II corruption case, slamming it as a hasty, evidence-lacking verdict under “Asim Law” dictated by army chief Gen Asim Munir.
Conveying the message via lawyers from Adiala Jail—where he faces solitary confinement without books or visits—Khan instructed Khyber Pakhtunkhwa CM Sohail Afridi to prepare a street movement for “Haqeeqi Azadi,” decrying pre-written judgments, women’s mistreatment outside jail, and PTI persecution as political vendetta.
PTI labeled the ruling “unconstitutional victimization” to prolong incarceration, vowing appeals in Islamabad High Court; Khan affirmed resolve, urging lawyers to restore constitutional rule amid claims of no defense opportunity or witnesses beyond a PTI-nominated figure.
