Anantnag: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir, V.K. Birdi on Wednesday reviewed security arrangements along the Pahalgam route of the upcoming Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra and directed all security agencies to maintain the highest level of vigilance and coordination for the smooth and safe conduct of the pilgrimage.
During the visit, Birdi inspected the X-ray Screening Point, where he reviewed passenger and baggage screening procedures. He instructed officials to ensure comprehensive screening of every pilgrim and all baggage in strict accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), while ensuring seamless movement of devotees.
The IGP also visited the Nunwan Base Camp and assessed the overall security deployment, surveillance systems, access control measures, emergency response mechanisms, and other logistical preparations for the annual pilgrimage.
Interacting with police personnel and officers deployed on the ground, Birdi appreciated their commitment and urged them to remain alert and perform their duties with professionalism and coordination.
Reviewing the multi-layered security framework, the IGP stressed the need for heightened vigilance, stronger inter-agency coordination, continuous surveillance, intelligence-based monitoring, and swift response to any emerging situation to ensure a peaceful and incident-free Yatra.
Officials said the inspection is part of a series of security reviews being conducted by senior police officers across the Kashmir Valley to evaluate preparedness and further strengthen the security grid ahead of the commencement of the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra-2026.
The IGP was accompanied by senior police officers, including Javid Iqbal Matoo, Sameer Sharma, Amod Ashok Nagpure, and other officials.
