New Delhi, Mar 6: An Indian Air Force Su-30MKI fighter jet crashed in Assam’s Karbi Anglong district on Thursday during a routine training mission. The IAF confirmed the incident and launched search operations for the aircraft, with no details yet on the two pilots’ status.
The Russian-origin jet, built under license by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), lost communication at 7:42 pm shortly after takeoff from Jorhat airbase, about 60 km from the crash site. The IAF operates over 260 of these advanced multirole, long-range fighters.
This marks the latest in a series of Su-30 incidents: one crashed in Maharashtra’s Nashik district in June 2024, and another near Gwalior airbase in January 2023.
