Guwahati, Aug 20 : Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday discussed rehabilitation measures for flood victims with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who reiterated his commitment to give the state full support to overcome the crisis.

Sarma met Modi in New Delhi during the day and also discussed other issues upon completion of 100 days of his second term in office.

“Throughout the #AssamFloodResponse, Adarniya Modi Ji remained in constant touch, closely reviewing the situation and extending every possible assistance,” Sarma said in a social media post.

The CM said he shared with Modi the Assam government’s roadmap for the next phase — rebuilding affected areas, restoring livelihoods and ensuring a comprehensive recovery.

“He (Modi) reaffirmed the Centre’s unwavering support in taking this mission to its logical conclusion,” Sarma said.

The flood situation in Assam continued to improve even as nearly 17,000 people were still reeling under the deluge across four districts, while the total number of deaths in this year’s floods stood at 105.

The Assam Bhavan in New Delhi, in a statement, said that the meeting between Modi and Sarma reaffirmed the close coordination between the Centre and the Assam government in dealing with the flood situation and advancing the state’s development agenda.

“The chief minister said the state government remains committed to working closely with the Centre to ensure effective rehabilitation and reconstruction in flood-affected areas while advancing the vision of a ‘Viksit Assam’,” it added.

Sarma said the discussions focused on taking forward the recovery efforts after the devastating floods, with particular emphasis on rebuilding affected areas and restoring the livelihoods of people impacted by the disaster.

According to the release, the CM also briefed the PM on the key initiatives undertaken by the Assam government during its first 100 days in office to fulfil the mandate entrusted to it by the people of the state.

The meeting covered the state government’s broader development priorities and its efforts to accelerate growth, strengthen infrastructure, improve public service delivery and create greater opportunities for the people of Assam.

Expressing gratitude to the prime minister, Sarma said, “My deepest gratitude to Adarniya Modi Ji for his continued margdarshan and steadfast commitment to realising our shared vision of a ‘Viksit Assam’.”
