JAMMU, APR 27: The High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh has quashed the Public Safety Act (PSA) detention of Aam Aadmi Party MLA Mehraj Malik, granting him a major relief after months in preventive custody.
The court set aside the PSA detention order following a habeas corpus petition challenging his continued detention under the Jammu and Kashmir Public Safety Act. Malik, who represents the Doda constituency and heads the AAP’s J&K unit, was detained on September 8, 2025, over allegations of activities prejudicial to public order, and was lodged in Kathua district jail.
The petition was heard on multiple dates, and the court had reserved its verdict on February 23 after concluding arguments from both sides. With the detention order now quashed, Malik is expected to be released after completion of legal formalities, unless he is required in connection with any other case, sources said.
