JAMMU, JAN 31: Minister for Health and Medical Education, Social Welfare and Education, Sakeena Itoo, today conducted a surprise inspection of Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu and carried out a detailed appraisal of healthcare delivery and patient‑centric services at the facility. During the visit, she undertook an extensive review of various departments, including emergency wards, inpatient wards, diagnostic units and other critical services, assessing the availability of essential medicines, medical equipment, cleanliness, staff attendance and overall patient‑care mechanisms.
The Health Minister also interacted with patients and their attendants to obtain first‑hand feedback on the quality of treatment, availability of doctors, nursing care and other support services. She listened carefully to their concerns and assured them that the government is committed to addressing existing gaps and improving healthcare infrastructure across Jammu and Kashmir.
During the visit, Minister Sakeena interacted with doctors, paramedical staff and hospital authorities, stressing that empathy, professionalism and accountability in public healthcare institutions are crucial for ensuring quality treatment for patients. She directed the hospital administration to ensure timely medical attention, maintain high hygiene standards and uphold patient dignity at all levels. She also emphasised the need to strengthen grievance redressal mechanisms so that patient issues are resolved promptly.
“Public trust in Government hospitals depends mainly on the conduct and compassion of doctors and paramedical staff,” Minister Sakeena said, underscoring the government’s resolve to upgrade medical facilities and enhance healthcare service delivery across the length and breadth of Jammu and Kashmir.
Principal GMC Jammu, Dr. Ashutosh Gupta; Medical Superintendent GMC Jammu; Medical Superintendent of the Super Speciality Hospital; and other senior officers of the hospital administration accompanied the Health Minister during the inspection.
