LEH: Former Chief Executive Councillor (CEC), LAHDC Leh, Advocate Tashi Gyalson, called on Union Cabinet Minister for Parliamentary Affairs and Minority Affairs Kiren Rijiju and discussed several important issues concerning infrastructure development and administrative matters related to UT Ladakh.
During the meeting, Advocate Tashi Gyalson expressed gratitude for his continued support for infrastructure development projects under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Vikas Karyakram (PMJVK) scheme implemented by the Ministry of Minority Affairs.
He particularly highlighted the ongoing approved projects, including the construction of 200-seater Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres at Leh and Kargil, with project costs of ₹7.00 crore and ₹7.50 crore respectively. These projects are nearing completion and are expected to be ready in the coming financial year.
He emphasized that the CBT centres will greatly benefit students by enabling the conduct of major competitive examinations with a common question paper, addressing the longstanding issue of multiple paper sets caused by inadequate examination infrastructure.
Adv. Gyalson urged the Minister to approve the proposals already submitted under the PMJVK scheme and informed him that several more such development proposals are expected to be submitted in the future.
Additionally, he requested his intervention regarding the transfer of arts, artifacts, and archival materials, which, despite the bifurcation into two Union Territories, have not yet been transferred from UT Jammu & Kashmir to UT Ladakh.
He also extended congratulations to the Minister for the successful Panchayat Election in Arunachal giving thumping majority for Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Importantly on December 22, the former CEC congratulated people of Nubra for getting major Infrastructure projects.
He also congratulated People of Kargil and Drass area for getting Sactioned of Project Worth Rs. 8.52 Crore for Construction of Motorable Brdige over River Suru at Trespone, Trambis (Kukshow) and Construction of Motorable Bridge at Haripura to BOU Drass at the Cost of 6.77 Crore
Gyalson said, “In a historic development for the Nubra Valley, the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has officially approved the construction of a major bridge over the Shayok River. The project, sanctioned at a cost of ₹92.63 Crore under the Central Road Infrastructure Fund (CRIF), will connect Diskit to the Burma-Charasa belt.”
This project marks the fulfilment of a long-pending demand from the people of Nubra, particularly those residing in the Burma and Charasa areas. Once completed, the bridge will provide all-weather connectivity, significantly reducing travel time and enhancing the socio-economic landscape of the region, he said.
Expressing his gratitude, the former CEC, LAHDC Leh, stated, “This is a monumental achievement for the people of Nubra. I extend my deepest gratitude to the Prime Minister, Shri
Narendra Modi, and the Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, for their unwavering support toward Ladakh’s infrastructure development. I am personally heartened to see this project reach approval, as it was a priority we pushed vigorously during my tenure as CEC, LAHDC Leh.”
The construction of this bridge is expected to be a ‘lifeline’ for the local communities, ensuring safer transit and better access to essential services for the entire Shayok region.
