Ahmedabad, Jul 3: The Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) has arrested eight persons for their alleged links with the Pakistan-based banned terrorist organisation Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) from various districts of Gujarat and neighbouring Madhya Pradesh, police said on Friday.
According to ATS officials, the accused were allegedly working to establish an active terror network in Gujarat on behalf of the banned outfit.
“Eight accused were arrested on Thursday from different districts of Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh. They are members of the banned terror organisation Jaish-e-Mohammed and were actively working to set up an active terror network in Gujarat,” an ATS official said.
A case has been registered against all eight accused under relevant provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), 1967, and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Further investigation is underway to ascertain the extent of the alleged network and any possible links to other individuals or organisations, officials said.
