Leh, Aug 24: The Ladakh Union Territory administration has underlined the urgent need for strengthening its police force in view of growing security and public safety requirements, particularly with the rapid expansion of tourism and opening of nearly 30 new routes for civilian and visitor movement.
Chief Secretary Ladakh, Dr. Pawan Kotwal, addressing a press conference, dispelled rumours being circulated on social media platforms and urged citizens, especially the youth, not to be misled. Stressing the importance of constructive engagement, he encouraged aspirants to remain focused on upcoming recruitment opportunities rather than falling prey to misinformation.
Officials acknowledged that while Ladakh continues to grow as a major tourist destination, it simultaneously faces mounting law-and-order responsibilities. The administration has highlighted the pressing requirement of additional battalions to effectively manage mischievous elements, provide safety to thousands of tourists, and support large-scale gatherings, such as those witnessed during the recent visit of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. Moreover, the demand for enhanced manpower is being directly linked with bolstering disaster preparedness in the strategically sensitive region.
“Ladakh is a new Union Territory, and with its expansion come new challenges. Reinforcements are on the way, and we remain grateful for the support being extended,” the administration remarked in its statement.
Director General of Police Ladakh, Dr. S. D. Singh Jamwal, reiterated the readiness of the force to meet any exigency. “We are fully prepared to tackle issues concerning crime control, public safety, or disaster response. Citizens are urged to stay away from unlawful activities and extend full cooperation to law enforcement agencies,” he stated.
The administration’s call for additional police strength is being viewed as a critical step in safeguarding Ladakh’s security architecture while ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for both residents and visitors.
