NEW DELHI, July 22: The Government on Wednesday informed the Lok Sabha that it is prepared to hold a discussion on the alleged NEET paper leak issue and urged Speaker Om Birla to convene a meeting of floor leaders to finalise the rules, date and duration of the debate.
The announcement came soon after the House reassembled at noon following an earlier adjournment.
As Speaker Om Birla invited Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju to make a statement, Congress leader K.C. Venugopal intervened, reiterating the Opposition’s demand for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the alleged examination irregularities.
Responding to the Opposition, Rijiju said the Government was willing to discuss the NEET issue in the House. However, he said the Speaker would have to hold consultations with leaders of all political parties to decide the procedural rule under which the discussion would take place, as well as its date and duration.
The proceedings continued amid sloganeering by Opposition members, who have been demanding an immediate debate on the alleged NEET paper leak and seeking the resignation of the Education Minister over the handling of the controversy.
