NEW DELHI, Mar 7: The government has ordered TV rating agency BARC to stop publishing Television Rating Points (TRPs) for news channels for four weeks—or until further notice—citing excessive sensationalism around the Israel-Iran conflict.
The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting flagged “unwarranted sensationalism and speculative content” on certain channels, warning it could spark public panic, especially among those with loved ones in affected areas or conflict zones.
Under 2014 policy guidelines, BARC must follow ministry directives. Clause 24.2 mandates compliance with any orders issued.
The move aims to curb potential alarm in the public interest amid the ongoing tensions.
