New Delhi, Dec 15: Gold prices witnessed a sharp rise in the national capital on Monday, surging by Rs 4,000 to hit a fresh lifetime high of Rs 1,37,600 per 10 grams, driven by strong global trends, according to the All India Sarafa Association.
The yellow metal of 99.9 per cent purity had closed at Rs 1,33,600 per 10 grams in the previous session, registering a significant single-day gain.
Market experts attributed the rally to robust international prices. “Gold prices scaled even higher as international spot gold surged towards the USD 4,350 zone, triggering a strong rally in the domestic market,” said Jateen Trivedi, VP Research Analyst (Commodity and Currency), LKP Securities. He added that gold mirrored global strength and touched a new lifetime peak in Indian markets.
Notably, gold had earlier touched a then-record of Rs 1,34,800 per 10 grams on October 17, after gaining Rs 3,200 in a single day.
Analysts pointed out that renewed safe-haven demand amid global economic uncertainty and anticipation around key US economic indicators have fueled the rally. “Expectations surrounding upcoming US macro data, including non-farm payrolls and the Core PCE Price Index, have shifted focus firmly to global cues, keeping volatility elevated,” Trivedi said.
Gold Prices in 2025 So Far
During the current calendar year, gold prices have surged by a massive Rs 58,650, marking a 74.3 per cent increase from Rs 78,950 per 10 grams recorded on December 31, 2024.
Silver Prices Steady in Domestic Market
Meanwhile, silver prices remained unchanged at Rs 1,99,500 per kilogram (inclusive of all taxes) in the Delhi market.
However, on a yearly basis, silver has delivered stellar returns, jumping Rs 1,09,800 or 122.41 per cent from Rs 89,700 per kg at the end of last year.
Global Market Update
In the international markets, spot gold extended its rally for the fifth consecutive session, rising by USD 49.83 (1.16 per cent) to USD 4,350.06 per ounce. Over the last five trading sessions, gold has gained USD 159.32 or 3.80 per cent.
“Spot gold continues to trade with a positive bias as the US Federal Reserve not only cut interest rates despite elevated inflation, but is also injecting liquidity by purchasing Treasury bills,” said Praveen Singh, Research Analyst, Mirae Asset Sharekhan.
Spot silver also witnessed strong momentum overseas, advancing USD 2 or 3.24 per cent to USD 63.96 per ounce. The white metal had touched a record high of USD 64.65 per ounce on Friday.
With global uncertainty persisting, bullion prices are expected to remain volatile, keeping investors and jewellers on close watch in the coming days.
