NUBRA: Lieutenant General Hitesh Bhalla, General Officer Commanding (GOC), Fire and Fury Corps, on Thursday visited the Siachen Brigade to assess the security situation and preparedness of formations deployed in one of the world’s most demanding military theatres.
The visit took place in the Nubra sector, where the Army Commander reviewed ground realities and readiness in the high-altitude glacier region that remains under continuous military deployment.
During the visit, Lt Gen Bhalla was briefed in detail by formation commanders on the prevailing security environment, operational challenges and the current state of preparedness in the Siachen sector. The review covered the ability of troops to sustain operations in extreme weather, the strength of logistics and infrastructure, and the effectiveness of round-the-clock surveillance across forward areas.
Senior officers outlined measures in place to ensure uninterrupted operational capability in the glacier zone, where terrain, altitude and climate continue to place severe demands on personnel and equipment.
The GOC also interacted with officers and soldiers deployed in the sector and commended them for their professionalism, courage and commitment while serving in harsh and isolated conditions. He encouraged all ranks to remain fully mission-oriented and to maintain high operational standards at all times.
Emphasising the changing nature of high-altitude warfare, Lt Gen Bhalla underlined the need to combine advanced technology with field experience to improve situational awareness, surveillance coverage and operational efficiency in the Siachen area.
He further urged personnel to uphold the highest traditions of duty, honour and service while discharging their responsibilities in the glacier region. The Army Commander assured troops of continued institutional support from senior leadership, including assistance in operational resources, welfare measures and sustained administrative backing.
Siachen, known as the world’s highest battlefield, continues to be among the most demanding operational sectors for the Indian Army. Troops remain deployed throughout the year in sub-zero temperatures and extreme terrain to safeguard national security and protect territorial integrity.
