Jammu, Aug 12 : A ‘Gen-Z tiranga rally’ was organised in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua on Wednesday ahead of the Independence Day, with hundreds of students carrying the tricolour in a long, serpentine procession and raising patriotic slogans.

The rally witnessed participation of gen-Z students, families of martyrs, sports clubs and fitness groups, who marched through the town carrying a giant tricolour.

Organiser Ranjit Pathania said the rally was aimed at bringing the youth onto the streets to honour the national flag and pay tribute to martyrs.

“India’s youth, the country’s gen-Z, loves the tricolour and has the courage to sacrifice their lives for its honour and pride. Today, you saw hundreds of gen-Z youths from Kathua participate in this rally,” Pathania told reporters in Kathua.

He said the participants also paid tribute to martyrs, including Captain Sunil Singh Choudhary, after whom Kathua railway station has been named.

“We organised this tiranga yatra with both these objectives, to convey a message of unity and integrity across the country,” he said.

Deputy Commissioner Rajesh Sharma said the Independence Day celebrations in the district had been planned in four phases and would continue till August 17.

He said the annual ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign had also been incorporated into the celebrations and urged people to participate in government initiatives to pay tribute to those who sacrificed their lives for the country’s freedom.

Police organised a tiranga bike rally in R S Pura border belt as part of the celebrations.

Nearly 500 bikers from the police and civil society participated in the rally, which commenced from R S Pura and proceeded towards Octroi Post at Suchetgarh near the international border, officials said.

The participants carried the national flag and raised the message of patriotism, national unity and solidarity.

The rally culminated peacefully at Octroi border out post on the border, where participants reaffirmed their commitment to national unity, integrity and patriotism.

In Reasi district as well, police and the administration organised a vibrant raft rally on the Chenab river under the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign.

With the tricolour displayed on the rafts, participants navigated the scenic waters of the river, spreading a strong message of patriotism, national unity and pride, officials said.

Jammu Police said such initiatives were aimed at strengthening police-public partnership and encouraging citizens, particularly the youth, to actively participate in Independence Day celebrations and make the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign a people’s movement.
