Leh, Sept 11: A three-day workshop aimed at nurturing entrepreneurial skills among Ladakh’s youth and women concluded today at Government Degree College Nobra. The programme, launched on September 9 inside the college’s multi-purpose hall, was organised under the initiative Enterprising Ladakh with support from the Higher Education Department of the Union Territory.
The sessions, conducted by resource persons Ms. Fariya and Mr. Rigzin Wangdus, provided participants with practical insights into adopting entrepreneurship as a career path. Students and members of women’s self-help groups were guided on drafting project reports, product marketing strategies, and the fundamentals of establishing sustainable ventures.
An exhibit during the workshop drew attention to locally developed products such as skincare items prepared from goji berry and lavender. Women’s groups also displayed handloom articles including knitted wool, yarn, alongside local produce ranging from lavender and chamomile tea to intricately woven straw baskets.
The valedictory session featured entrepreneur Lobzang Wangmo from Nubra, who shared her journey of building her crochet business under the brand Lobithikma. Her story resonated with participants as an example of self-reliance and determination. Students further enlivened the session with product pitches and presentations showcasing their entrepreneurial ideas.
The college principal, Rigzin Sandup, and Assistant Professor Sonam Angmo, who serves as the nodal officer for the Enterprising Youth Awareness Programme, were honoured for their efforts in facilitating the event. Recognition was also given to standout participants, with students ShahJhan, Sanju Kumari, and Padma Choskey receiving mementos for their presentations and quiz performance.
The workshop concluded with enthusiastic feedback, affirming its role in encouraging innovation and strengthening community-driven enterprises. Organisers expressed confidence that the initiative will pave the way for a culture of entrepreneurship, enabling Ladakh’s youth and women to explore new avenues of livelihood while promoting local identity in wider markets.
