Jammu, Jan 30: Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha emphasized on Friday that Mahatma Gandhi’s principles of non-violence, truth, and human dignity hold immense relevance today amid global uncertainties, conflicts, and climate crises.
Speaking at an event organized by the Gandhi Global Family, Sinha paid homage to Gandhi and freedom fighters who embodied his path during India’s independence struggle.
He described the gathering at the historic venue as more than a commemoration—a beacon of peace and hope for Jammu and Kashmir, showcasing the timeless impact of Gandhian values across generations.
Sinha highlighted the world’s current era of geopolitical tensions, social divides, and economic shifts. He referenced the landmark India-EU trade agreement finalized on January 27 after two decades of talks, yet warned of brewing tensions between nations, societies, and individuals that could ignite broader disruptions.
“If war looms in one corner and climate change threatens humanity’s future, Gandhi’s voice provides strength,” he stated.
Portraying Gandhi as a timeless guide, Sinha stressed his vision of non-violence, truth, and self-determination. Quoting Gandhi’s March 16, 1947, Harijan column—”God is one, religions many, like a tree’s countless leaves”—he underscored Gandhi’s commitment to human dignity, equality, social justice, and youth rights as keys to overcoming challenges.
With moral courage, Gandhi’s path of truth continues to illuminate humanity, Sinha affirmed.
