Rajouri/Jammu, June 16: Four Army personnel, including a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO), sustained injuries in an accidental landmine explosion near the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district on Tuesday, officials said.
The incident occurred in the forward Kalal area of the Nowshera sector during a routine area domination patrol being carried out by Army troops. According to officials, the blast was triggered by the accidental activation of a landmine deployed as part of anti-infiltration measures along the border.
The injured personnel, comprising one JCO and three soldiers, were immediately evacuated from the site and shifted to a nearby military hospital for medical treatment. Their condition is reported to be stable.
Officials said that forward areas along the LoC are heavily mined to prevent infiltration attempts from across the border. However, adverse weather conditions, including heavy rainfall, can sometimes displace landmines from their original positions, leading to accidental explosions.
Further details are awaited as authorities continue to assess the circumstances surrounding the incident.
