LEH: Adv. Tashi Gyalson, former Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor of LAHDC Leh, along with Stanzin Lakpa, General Secretary of BJP Ladakh and Councillor from Cha Constituency, called on Ashish Kundra, Chief Secretary of the Union Territory of Ladakh, at the UT Secretariat in Leh.
The meeting marked the first formal interaction between Adv. Gyalson and the new Chief Secretary. At the outset, both leaders extended their warm greetings and best wishes to Kundra on assuming charge, expressing confidence that under his leadership Ladakh would achieve new milestones in governance, infrastructure development and efficient public service delivery.
A wide range of developmental and administrative matters concerning the Union Territory were discussed. Prominent among them was the proposed exposition of the Sacred Buddha Relics in Ladakh. Adv. Gyalson highlighted the deep cultural, religious and spiritual significance of the event, stating that it would especially benefit differently-abled persons, senior citizens, monks, nuns and devotees who are unable to travel outside the region to seek blessings. He also underlined its potential to position Ladakh as a prominent centre of Buddhist heritage and pilgrimage.
Land-related matters also figured prominently in the discussions. The delegation referred to recommendations submitted earlier by the 6th LAHDC Leh during Adv. Gyalson’s tenure, including proposals for a Nautor Land Usage Conversion Policy for commercial and residential purposes, a Land Regularization Policy and amendments to the Land Rules under the LAHDC Act. They urged that these suggestions be duly considered while framing new policies. The rationalization of wildlife sanctuary boundaries was also discussed, with appreciation expressed for efforts to adopt a balanced approach that safeguards biodiversity while reducing hardships faced by local residents.
The delegation further stressed the need for timely recruitment to gazetted administrative and police posts and for officiating promotions of eligible feeder cadre officials to address long-pending service matters. Developmental priorities in Zanskar, particularly road connectivity, communication networks and essential infrastructure, were emphasized ahead of the Chief Secretary’s proposed visit. Adv. Gyalson also requested public interactions in villages en route and later raised land allotment and access issues concerning the Ibex Colony delegation.
The Chief Secretary assured that all matters would receive due consideration and reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to constructive engagement and balanced regional development.
