New Delhi, Jan 27: Inderjit Singh Bindra (IS Bindra), former BCCI President and Punjab Cricket Association chief, passed away on January 25 after prolonged illness at age 84, leaving behind a son and daughter.
Bindra served as BCCI President from 1993-1996, transforming Indian cricket administration into a professional powerhouse. He led PCA for 36 years (1978-2014), spearheading Mohali stadium development that hosted World Cups and international matches.
Known for visionary marketing and firm decision-making, Bindra advised IPL formation and served as ICC Principal Adviser. PCA Stadium Mohali renamed IS Bindra Stadium in 2015 honors his contributions.
ICC Chairman Jay Shah expressed condolences: “Deepest condolences on the passing of Mr. I S Bindra… May his legacy inspire future generations. Om Shanti”. BCCI mourned the “stalwart of Indian cricket administration”.
Last rites performed at Lodhi Road crematorium, New Delhi on January 26. Bindra’s death marks end of an era for Indian cricket governance.
