Samba, Dec 31: Senior Superintendent of Police Samba on Wednesday presented a year-end account of policing in the district, outlining firm action against narcotics, crime, illegal mining and cyber fraud while stressing improved public outreach and emergency response during 2025.
Addressing the media, the SSP said the district police sustained pressure on drug networks throughout the year, registering 70 FIRs under the NDPS Act, a sharp rise over the previous year. Case disposal touched over 81 per cent, while four drug peddlers were detained under the PITNDPS Act. Property attachment proceedings against offenders also increased, both in volume and value, as investigators traced forward and backward linkages to disrupt supply chains. Targeted operations at known drug hotspots resulted in higher arrests, vehicle seizures and action against vagrancy. Parallel efforts were made to engage youth through debates, sports activities, PCPG meetings, Thana Diwas programmes and student exposure tours.
The SSP said general crime disposal also showed improvement, reflecting tighter supervision and faster investigations. Action against illegal mining was stepped up, leading to the seizure of 652 vehicles and registration of cases against violators across the district. Police also intensified operations against bovine smuggling, booking dozens of cases, seizing vehicles, rescuing hundreds of animals and arresting those involved.
Emphasis on women’s safety remained a priority, with enhanced patrolling, effective use of the Dial 112 helpline and sustained community awareness drives. The Women Cell Samba and women help desks at all police stations functioned round the clock with dedicated female staff to ensure prompt grievance redressal.
During the year, police traced and reunited 110 missing persons with their families and arrested 19 absconders. Preventive actions were taken against nearly a thousand individuals to maintain public order.
Highlighting emergency response, the SSP said more than 8,000 civilians were evacuated from border villages during Operation Sindoor, while timely action during flash floods led to the rescue of over 465 people.
On cyber crime, the SSP said over Rs 32 lakh was refunded to victims of online fraud and more than Rs 70 lakh secured as lien amounts. Cyber awareness programmes were conducted across educational institutions, workplaces and public spaces. Traffic enforcement also saw stricter implementation, with a sharp rise in challans issued against violators.
The SSP further said new criminal law provisions, including Zero FIRs, e-FIRs, cases of organized crime, trial in absentia and community service as punishment, were actively enforced in the district.
Appreciating the efforts of officers and personnel, the SSP acknowledged public cooperation and media support, reiterating that Samba Police would continue to function with professionalism, transparency and accountability to maintain peace and security.
