Leh, Aug 15: Against the backdrop of Ladakh’s towering mountains and azure skies, the Fire and Fury Corps celebrated the 79th Independence Day with patriotic zeal and solemn remembrance. The heart of the celebrations was the wreath-laying ceremony at the Hall of Fame War Memorial, where soldiers and officers gathered to honour the supreme sacrifice of India’s bravehearts.
Brigadier S.K. Dalal, Station Commander of Leh Military Station, led the homage by placing a wreath on behalf of all ranks of the Corps. The ceremony, marked by silence and reverence, stood as a poignant reminder of the courage and devotion of soldiers who laid down their lives defending the nation’s sovereignty.
Speaking on the occasion, Brigadier Dalal praised the men and women of the Indian Army for their indomitable spirit and unflinching duty in one of the most inhospitable regions of the world.
“The soldiers serving in Ladakh exemplify fortitude and resilience. Their commitment to safeguarding our borders, often in sub-zero temperatures and extreme conditions, is unparalleled. Their contribution extends beyond security to the very process of nation-building,” he said.
The Hall of Fame War Memorial, a proud landmark of Leh, added depth to the ceremony. Established in memory of the soldiers who laid down their lives in various operations in Ladakh, the memorial houses the stories of gallantry from the Kargil War and earlier conflicts. For both soldiers and civilians, it remains a symbol of sacrifice, honour, and national pride.
Local residents, many of whom gathered outside the memorial, joined the Army in the spirit of celebration, waving the tricolour and offering floral tributes. The atmosphere reflected both pride and gratitude, as the people of Ladakh stood shoulder to shoulder with the Army.
The Fire and Fury Corps, entrusted with safeguarding India’s borders in the icy heights of Ladakh, has long been recognised for its unmatched dedication. From manning posts at Siachen Glacier—the world’s highest battlefield—to securing the Line of Actual Control, their service embodies grit and determination.
