Leh, Oct 05: Head Lama of Thiksey and Diskit Monasteries and former Member of Rajya Sabha (RS), Rev. Kushok Thiksey (Nawang Chamba Stanzin) has written to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, expressing deep sorrow over the recent distressing developments in Ladakh that have resulted in loss of lives and injuries.
Thiksey Rinpoche has urged the Union Territory Administration of Ladakh and the Government of India to facilitate a prompt, impartial, and transparent judicial inquiry into the incident.
He also requested authorities to consider the unconditional release of those unjustly detained and called for timely ex-gratia compensation and medical assistance for the affected families.
In response to the recent tragic developments in Ladakh, he issued a heartfelt appeal for peace, restraint, and justice.
In a statement from Thiksey Monastery, Rev. Thiksey conveyed his profound sorrow and solidarity with the families of those who lost their lives and those injured in the recent incidents.
“The loss of lives and the injuries sustained have caused immense pain across our society,” he said, offering prayers for the departed souls and expressing sympathy with the bereaved and the suffering.
Expressing deep concern and moral disapproval of the excessive use of force that led to the tragic loss of precious lives, the spiritual leader urged that such matters be handled with utmost seriousness and accountability.
Emphasizing the need for dialogue and non-violence, he urged that the concerns reflected in Ladakh’s Four-Point Agenda be addressed through peaceful engagement and mutual respect. “Constructive dialogue rooted in understanding can pave the way for lasting solutions,” he stated.
To the people of Ladakh, Rev. Thiksey appealed for unity and calm in the face of adversity. “Let us respond to these challenging circumstances with dignity, compassion, and non-violence — principles that have always guided Ladakhi society,” he said, encouraging all communities to uphold harmony during the Year of Compassion.
Concluding his message, Rev. Thiksey appealed to the administration to handle the situation with restraint, empathy, and respect for human dignity, ensuring that public concerns are met with peace and understanding.
“With prayers for healing, stability, and the welfare of all, may peace and well-being prevail in Ladakh,” he stated.
