


Leh, Sept 04: Eliezer Joldan Memorial College, in association with Chamste Mental Health and Social Service Leh, hosted an awareness programme on drug abuse, drawing participation from students, faculty members and mental health experts.
The event began with the customary presentation of a khatak to the guest by Assistant Professor Stanzin Youdon on behalf of the college principal. Welcoming the gathering, Dr. Syed Ali Shah acknowledged the contribution of the speakers and highlighted the relevance of such initiatives for the student community.
Delivering the main address, Dr. Biswadip Chatterjee, Professor at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Delhi, spoke extensively on preventive approaches to drug addiction. He stressed the importance of life skills, resistance techniques and normative education in curbing the menace. To illustrate his point, Dr. Chatterjee engaged students in an interactive activity that demonstrated practical refusal strategies, including saying no, offering alternatives and persuading peers to avoid harmful substances.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Assistant Professor of Psychology, Stanzin Yudon, who expressed gratitude to Dr. Chatterjee for his engaging interaction with the students and to all participants for their involvement.
Among those present were psychiatrist Dr. Padma Angmo, AIIMS administrative officer Dr. Mehdi, members of Chamste Mental Health and Social Service Leh, along with the staff and students of the college. The proceedings were jointly coordinated by Dr. Syed Ali Shah and Assistant Professor Stanzin Yudon.
