Phagwara, Apr 16 : The Enforcement Directorate (ED) carried out early-morning raids on Wednesday at Lovely Professional University (LPU) campus in Phagwara and multiple other premises linked to the Lovely Group, including the residential home of AAP MP Ashok Kumar Mittal, the university’s founder and chancellor.
The searches, conducted by ED teams from Jalandhar and Chandigarh without local police assistance, targeted business entities connected to the Lovely Group in an investigation into alleged violations of the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA). Apart from LPU, raids were also conducted at Tetr College of Business and Masters Union College of Business in Gurgaon, sweets shops, Lovely Autos, a distance education centre, and the homes of the group’s owners—Ashok Mittal and his brothers Ramesh Mittal and Naresh Mittal.
“AAP MP Ashok Mittal’s residential premise is also being covered in searches,” an official confirmed, emphasizing that all raided locations are linked to the Lovely Group.
Ashok Kumar Mittal, who recently replaced Raghav Chadha as AAP’s Rajya Sabha deputy leader, is the founder and chancellor of LPU, which he owns along with his brothers. The ED action marks a significant development in the ongoing FEMA probe into the group’s foreign exchange dealings.
