Jammu, June 19 : As part of the ongoing Drug-Free J&K campaign, police on Friday attached properties worth over Rs 2.08 crore belonging to an alleged drug peddler in Samba district.
The accused, identified as Narayan Sharma alias Shunna, a resident of Vijaypur, is currently lodged in Central Jail Kot Bhalwal, Jammu, under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PITNDPS) Act.
Police said the action was taken under Section 68-F of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act after investigations established that the assets were allegedly acquired through proceeds generated from illegal drug trafficking.
The attached properties include a residential house valued at around Rs 48.50 lakh, a car worth approximately Rs 10 lakh, and land estimated to be worth nearly Rs 1.50 crore. The total value of the attached assets has been assessed at about Rs 2.08 crore.
According to officials, a detailed inquiry revealed prima facie evidence linking the properties to proceeds of the narcotics trade, following which they were seized and attached under the relevant provisions of the NDPS Act.
Police said further legal proceedings are being initiated in accordance with the law as part of their intensified campaign against drug trafficking in Jammu and Kashmir.
