Drass, Mar 16: The main market in Drass remained completely shut on Sunday following an appeal issued by the Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA), with business establishments across the town downing shutters in response to the call.
From early morning, shops and commercial establishments in the town stayed closed, leading to a halt in routine market activity. The shutdown resulted in deserted streets in the otherwise busy market area, with only limited movement of pedestrians and vehicles witnessed throughout the day.
Local traders and shopkeepers observed the shutdown in response to the appeal made by the Kargil Democratic Alliance. As a result, the town’s commercial centre saw no business transactions for the day.
Residents reported that most retail outlets, grocery stores, and other businesses remained closed, reflecting a widespread response to the call. However, essential services continued to function, and no major disruptions to emergency services were reported.
The shutdown remained largely peaceful, with normal law and order prevailing in the area.
Authorities kept a close watch on the situation to ensure that public order was maintained during the day.
