JAMMU, Dec 6: Declaring traditional silos obsolete, Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh positioned industry-academia partnerships as India’s imperative for global R&D supremacy, urging a tripartite ecosystem with government as catalyst in today’s hyper-competitive landscape.
At the CII-hosted Global Summit on Industry-Academia Partnership 2025—”Catalysing India’s Rise as an R&D Powerhouse”—Singh spotlighted paradigm shifts: surging patents from Tier-2/3 innovators, private sector breakthroughs in space and nuclear domains once government monopolies, and platforms like InSpace bridging lab discoveries to market realities.
Policy Pivot Unlocks Private Innovation Surge
Singh hailed policy reforms opening strategic sectors to non-government players, reflecting matured confidence in collaborative models that accelerate innovation-led GDP expansion. He benchmarked India against global leaders leveraging private funding, positioning the National Research Foundation and fresh funding streams as magnets for industry R&D investments.
Government’s facilitator role, he emphasized, empowers startups, academia, and corporates to co-create in priority domains, with youth from smaller cities—empowered by digital access—driving domestic patent booms as active innovation foot soldiers.
Youth Power and Institutional Bridges Fuel Momentum
Tier-2/3 aspirations, Singh noted, transform via information parity, yielding entrepreneurial patents that expand India’s research footprint. Biotech interfaces and InSpace ensure structured, transparent synergies, converting academic breakthroughs into industrial assets for mutual gains.
The minister launched the CII Industry-Academia Partnership Compendium 2025, then toured an exhibition unveiling startup-tech marvels from research labs and universities, underscoring tangible partnership dividends.
