Kargil, May 14 : Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor (CEC), LAHDC Kargil, Dr Mohd Jaffer Akhoon on Wednesday called for stronger publicity measures and coordinated tourism outreach to enhance Kargil’s visibility as a tourism destination, stressing the need for sustained efforts to promote the region’s cultural heritage, adventure tourism and natural landscape.
The remarks were made during an interaction with Mohd Taqi, who recently assumed charge as Joint Director Information and was also given the additional responsibility of Deputy Director Tourism.
The meeting focused on issues related to the Information and Tourism Departments, with discussions centred on improving promotional strategies and strengthening tourism activities across the district. The CEC emphasised that coordinated efforts between departments were necessary to ensure wider outreach and effective dissemination of information about Kargil’s tourism potential.
Highlighting the region’s growing appeal among travellers, the meeting discussed measures to promote mountaineering, trekking and heritage tourism, besides projecting Kargil’s cultural and historical identity through targeted publicity campaigns.
The CEC underlined the importance of showcasing lesser-explored destinations and traditional heritage sites to attract a larger influx of tourists to the district. He also stressed the need for sustained institutional coordination to improve tourism infrastructure and visitor outreach.
Assuring full support from the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC), the CEC said the Council would extend cooperation for initiatives aimed at strengthening the tourism sector and broadening promotional activities in the region.
Mohd Taqi was recently posted as Joint Director Information and has been entrusted with the additional charge of Deputy Director Tourism in Kargil.
