DLRC Meeting flags concerns over Credit growth in Leh

Banks in Leh lag on lending despite rising deposits

Leh, Jun 11: Nearly a dozen Banks in Leh including BOB, BOM, JKB, ICICI, HDFC, Axis Bank, Yes Bank, INDUSINDH Bank, Bandhan bank and JKSCB recorded low Credit-Deposit (CD) Ratio (below 40%).

Additional District Development Commissioner Leh, Sonam Nurboo expressed his concern over the low CDR and directed them to provide reasons along with strategies to improve their CD ratio in the upcoming quarter.

He chaired a meeting of District Level Review Committee (DLRC) and District Consultative Committee (DCC) of Leh district for the quarter end of March 2025 at Conference Hall DC office Leh.

The meeting was convened by Lead Bank Chief Manager Stanzin Dolkar, who presented the banking performance report for the quarter and apprised the chair about the Credit-Deposit (CD) ratio, priority sector lending, and overall credit flow in the district.

She informed that the total deposits as on March 2025 stood at ₹6687.78 Cr as compared to Rs.6358.60 Cr as on December 2024.

She also informed that the total advances were ₹3086.94 Cr, resulting in an improved CD ratio of 46.16%, which marks a rise from 43.93% recorded in December 2024. The quarterly credit growth was ₹206.12 Cr.

Discussions were also held on the bank-wise and sector-wise performance under the Priority and Non-Priority Sectors, covering areas such as agriculture, education, social infrastructure, and housing. The committee evaluated the progress of government schemes like Pradhan Mantri Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP), Kisan Credit Card (KCC), MUDRA, Stand-Up India, PM Vishwakarma, PM SVANidhi, National Urban Livelihood Mission (NULM), National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM), Pradhan Mantri Formalization of Micro Enterprises (PMFME), Weaver Mudra scheme, Vibrant Village Programme and Social Security Schemes like Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY), Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY) and Atal Pension Yojana (APY) and Financial Literacy Initiatives during the DLRC meeting.

District Officers of concerned departments informed the ADDC about the progress in various government schemes in Leh district and issues faced by applicants in availing these benefits. ADDC stressed on regular monitoring and coordination between the banks and concerned departments so that beneficiaries do not face any issues. He also stressed on creating widespread awareness among people about various financial schemes and banking services available.

During the meeting Kifayat Hussain Senior Manager Crisil Foundation presented the work done of Moneywise CFL Project funded by RBI and NABARD. The banks, LRLM and line departments were instructed to work in convergence with CFL staff to organize the financial awareness camps to ensure maximum population is bought under the ambit of financial inclusion.

ADDC Leh further directed all concerned departments to submit detailed progress reports on the implementation of various schemes and initiatives before the next DLRC/DCC meeting.

The meeting concluded with directions for all stakeholders to ensure effective implementation of financial schemes and initiatives aimed at enhancing the economic growth and financial inclusion of Leh District.

Leh; Branch Manager JK Grameen Bank Leh; Branch Manager IDBI Leh; Branch Manager HDFC Bank Leh.
