Delhi Transport Unions to March to Parliament on August 4 Against E20 Fuel Policy

NEW DELHI, Jul 27: Several Delhi-based transport associations have announced a protest march to Parliament on August 4, demanding the withdrawal of compulsory E20 ethanol-blended petrol and the restoration of consumer choice in fuel options.

The protest has been called by the Delhi Taxi and Tourist Transporters and Tour Operators Association, with support from other transport bodies.

Association president Sanjay Samrat said the march aims to draw the attention of Members of Parliament to concerns over alleged vehicle damage caused by E20 fuel. He clarified that the agitation is non-political and has no association with any political party or the online E-20 Janata Party movement.

The All India Motor Transport Congress (AIMTC) has also extended support to the protest. Its national president, Harish Sabharwal, said transporters oppose making E20 fuel the only option for consumers and want conventional petrol to remain available alongside ethanol-blended fuel.

Echoing the demand, Rajender Kapoor, president of the All India Motor & Goods Transport Association, alleged that E20 fuel is affecting vehicle performance and urged the government to make it optional rather than mandatory.

The protest announcement comes amid growing debate over the Centre’s E20 ethanol-blending programme, with critics citing concerns over reduced mileage and possible engine wear. The government, however, maintains that E20 fuel is safe, environmentally friendly and beneficial for farmers, and has ruled out any immediate plan to increase ethanol blending beyond 20 per cent.
