New Delhi, Feb 12: Delhi High Court, Supreme Court, and Ministry of Home Affairs led RTI rejections in 2024-25, with Finance Ministry also denying significantly, per Central Information Commission’s latest annual report.
Delhi HC rejected 22.88% of 2,089 applications (highest rate among top 20 authorities); Supreme Court turned down 13.73% of 5,017 (689 nos.); MHA rejected 13.33% of 58,130 (7,750). Finance denied 8.50% of 2,20,283 apps (18,734).
Section 8(1) exemptions (national security, etc.) cited 28,924 times (49.88% of rejections); Section 24 (security orgs) 8,251 times (14.23%). Corporate Affairs rejected just 0.14% of 2,54,657 apps.
Finance saw 26,219 first appeals, 3,966 second; MHA: 9,389/960; Defence: 16,876/1,203—highlighting wide rejection variations amid lakhs of citizen queries.
