NEW DELHI, JUNE 4 : Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday announced enhanced financial powers for revenue-related procurement under the new Delegation of Financial Powers to Defence Services (DFPDS)-2026, describing the move as a major step towards strengthening India’s defence preparedness and promoting self-reliance.
According to Singh, the new framework covers revenue procurement with an annual value exceeding ₹1.25 lakh crore and is aimed at empowering field commanders with greater decision-making authority.
In a post on social media, the Defence Minister congratulated the Ministry of Defence and the Armed Forces for the initiative, stating that the revised financial powers would enable faster procurement processes and improve operational readiness.
He said the new policy is designed to encourage research and development in the defence sector while reducing dependence on foreign Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs).
Singh further noted that the reforms would support the government’s push for indigenisation by creating greater opportunities for private industry, including MSMEs and startups, to participate in defence production and innovation.
The Defence Minister also highlighted that the financial powers for executing works projects have been doubled under the new framework, a move expected to accelerate infrastructure development and ensure timely completion of critical defence projects.
Officials believe the enhanced delegation of powers will streamline procurement procedures, improve efficiency in defence acquisitions, and strengthen the Armed Forces’ operational capabilities.
