Kargil, Oct 28: Deputy Commissioner and CEO, LAHDC Kargil, Rakesh Kumar on Monday inspected the Sangam View Point tourism project to evaluate on-ground progress as Kargil prepares to push its frontier tourism under the Union government’s Swadesh Darshan 2.0 scheme.
Accompanied by Executive Engineer, Kargil Development Authority (KDA), Syed Mehdi, the DC assessed commencement logistics and readiness of the executing agency, Magpie Enterprises, which is undertaking the work under KDA’s direct supervision. Officials said the visit focused on verifying infrastructure rollout before the next phase of implementation.
The project envisions development, operation and long-term maintenance of tourism infrastructure along the Line of Control, with Hunderman — a historic border settlement overlooking the LOC — positioned as a marquee heritage and war-memory tourism site.
Sangam View Point is being upgraded as a strategic viewing and visitor-orientation zone, intended to serve as an access node for high-altitude border tourism circuits. Officials indicated that wayfinding systems, interpretive facilities and visitor amenities form part of the immediate works examined during the inspection.
The DC reiterated that infrastructure must match the expected inflow of adventure, heritage and border-history tourists once the circuit is opened to domestic and international travel operators. The administration is expected to review Magpie Enterprises’ next stage progress within the coming weeks.
