Kargil, Oct 02: In a significant step towards promoting civic hygiene, the District Administration Kargil organized a large-scale cleanliness drive at Kurbathang as part of the Swachhata Hi Seva campaign under the Swachh Bharat Mission. The initiative, conducted to commemorate Gandhi Jayanti, was observed from September 17 to October 2, 2025.
The drive, focusing on the area near the Kurbathang dumping yard, was spearheaded by Deputy Commissioner Rakesh Kumar along with Additional Deputy Commissioner and Administrator Municipal Committee Kargil, Imteeaz Kacho. The event witnessed active participation from officials and workers of the Municipal Committee Kargil.
Addressing the volunteers, Deputy Commissioner Rakesh Kumar expressed his appreciation for their efforts, particularly acknowledging the dedication of the Municipal Committee’s cleaning staff. The cleanliness drive spanned nearly three hours, during which approximately 1,314 kilograms (1.3 tons) of waste was collected and transported to the Solid Waste Management Plant in Kurbathang.
Speaking at the event, ADC Imteeaz Kacho commended the commitment of the Municipal Committee staff and participants, emphasizing that sustainable waste management requires collective responsibility and active citizen engagement. He assured that the Municipal Committee would continue to support similar initiatives in the future. The drive served not only as a tribute to Mahatma Gandhi’s vision of cleanliness but also underscored the district administration’s and community’s shared commitment to building a cleaner and more sustainable Kargil.
