Nubra, June 5 : Deputy Commissioner Nubra, Mukul Beniwal, IAS, on Thursday reviewed preparations for the observance of World Environment Day across the district and called for coordinated efforts to ensure meaningful public participation in environmental conservation activities.
The review meeting was attended by the Sub-Divisional Magistrate Nubra, Block Development Officers, Zonal Education Officer Nubra, school principals and representatives of the Forest Department.
During the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner directed officials to organise programmes focusing on plantation drives, water conservation, cleanliness campaigns, anti-plastic initiatives and community participation across Gram Panchayats and educational institutions.
Emphasising the role of awareness and education in environmental protection, Beniwal suggested the organisation of environment-themed competitions in schools and educational camps aimed at helping students better understand their local ecosystem, including the identification and importance of native tree and plant species.
The Deputy Commissioner also underscored the need to utilise the occasion to raise awareness about the harmful effects of drug abuse, particularly among students. He noted that young people remain among the most vulnerable sections of society and stressed the importance of integrating awareness campaigns into the World Environment Day programmes.
Beniwal directed all concerned departments and stakeholders to work in close coordination to ensure the smooth and effective implementation of the planned activities across the district.
The meeting concluded with participating departments and institutions reaffirming their commitment to actively contribute towards making the World Environment Day observance impactful and community-oriented throughout Nubra district.
