Nubra, May 9 : Deputy Commissioner Nubra, Mukul Beniwal, IAS, on Friday chaired a meeting with representatives of the Hotel Association and tourism stakeholders to deliberate on a range of tourism-related and developmental concerns affecting the district, with discussions focusing on infrastructure gaps, power supply and sustainable tourism management.
The meeting brought together officials and members of the hospitality sector who raised issues related to electricity supply, tourism infrastructure, transport and transshipment charges, waste segregation mechanisms, base camp facilities and fire safety arrangements in the region.
Participants also stressed the need for strengthening the functioning of tourism authorities and the Nubra Development Authority to ensure coordinated planning and effective implementation of tourism and infrastructure initiatives in the district.
Responding to the concerns, the Deputy Commissioner assured stakeholders that the administration would work towards improving power supply through the better functioning of hydel power projects operating in the region. He also expressed support for proposals seeking solar subsidy assistance for hotels and commercial establishments until stable grid connectivity is achieved.
Highlighting the growing tourism footprint in Nubra Valley, Beniwal underscored the need for environmentally responsible development and called upon tourism stakeholders to work in coordination with the district administration for long-term and sustainable growth.
He urged representatives of the hospitality sector to extend cooperation and offer constructive suggestions aimed at improving civic amenities, tourism facilities and environmental management across the district.
The meeting was attended by Sub-Divisional Magistrate Nubra, Jigmet Raftan, JKAS, President and executive members of Ldumra Skoryangs Tsogspa Nubra, besides members of the Hotel Association.
