KHALTSE: Deputy Commissioner Sham, Kunzes Angmo (JKAS), on Thursday released the inaugural edition of “Sheschey Odangs” (Light of Knowledge), the school newsletter of Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS) Khaltse, describing student-led literary initiatives as vital platforms for nurturing creativity, critical thinking and academic engagement.
The launch ceremony, held at the school campus, was attended by Superintendent of Police Aijaz Malik (JKPS), Assistant Executive Engineer R&B Anwar Khan, officials from various departments, members of the School Management Committee (SMC), parents and students.
Addressing the gathering, the Deputy Commissioner and the Superintendent of Police stressed the importance of fostering a culture of reading and writing among young learners. They urged students to develop constructive habits, remain socially responsible and stay vigilant against challenges such as substance abuse.
The newsletter, conceived as a platform for student expression, seeks to encourage creative writing, literary pursuits and intellectual engagement within the school community. School authorities said the publication would provide students with opportunities to showcase their ideas, experiences and talents while strengthening communication and writing skills.
Earlier, Principal Tsewang Paljor outlined the efforts behind the publication and credited the teaching staff and students for bringing the project to fruition. He made special mention of the Literary Committee, headed by Lecturer in English Tashi Angchuk, for coordinating the initiative and ensuring the successful release of the first edition.
The event also featured cultural performances by students, reflecting the school’s emphasis on balancing academic achievement with cultural and co-curricular development.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Lecturer in Political Science Tashi Sangdup.
