Kargil, Sept 30: Deputy Commissioner Kargil, Rakesh Kumar, has underlined the need for strengthening educational infrastructure in the district, during an inspection of PM Shri Kendriya Vidyalaya Trespone and Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) Khumbuthang on Tuesday. Accompanied by Additional Deputy Commissioner Imteeaz Kacho, the DC reviewed accommodation, hostel facilities and campus development in both institutions.
At Kendriya Vidyalaya Trespone, Kumar directed the school authorities to repurpose existing facilities such as the sports room, work experience room and scout room to manage the current student load. He instructed the Public Works Department (PWD) to prepare a Detailed Project Report for a new building, while suggesting that the old government school building be utilised temporarily. He also emphasized developing the school ground and encouraged inclusion of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan activities in the curriculum to instill civic values among students.
Reviewing facilities at JNV Khumbuthang, the DC interacted with parents and the school principal, stressing the need to expand hostel accommodation. The principal pointed out the challenge of limited infrastructure in harsh climatic conditions and the urgent requirement of electric water heaters. He added that a new hostel building is expected to be handed over shortly, which will significantly increase capacity.
Assuring support, Kumar announced that a Block Monitoring Committee (BMC) meeting will soon be convened to address hostel-level and staff requirements. He reiterated that student welfare remains central to the administration’s priorities, remarking that students are the “future pillars of society.”
