KARGIL: Deputy Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer, LAHDC Kargil, Rakesh Kumar on Tuesday directed all departments to intensify preparations and ensure wider public participation for the International Yoga Day programme scheduled to be held at Khree Sultan Cho Sports Stadium, Bemathang, on June 21.
Chairing a review meeting, the Deputy Commissioner assessed arrangements related to participant mobilisation, venue management, logistics, publicity and inter-departmental coordination. Officials informed the meeting that around 900 yoga mats had already been arranged for the event.
Emphasising the need for greater public involvement, Rakesh Kumar suggested increasing the participation target to nearly 1,000 people and directed concerned departments to mobilise participants from educational institutions, government offices, non-governmental organisations, Panchayat Halqas and local communities.
The Deputy Commissioner instructed the Chief Education Officer to ensure the participation of students from all Higher Secondary Schools in uniform, while degree colleges were asked to encourage large-scale student participation. Government employees were also urged to take part in the programme alongside representatives of NGOs, the Drug De-Addiction Centre and members of the public.
To ensure smooth conduct of the event, all Sub-Divisional Magistrates and Executive Magistrates were directed to coordinate arrangements and facilitate participation within their respective jurisdictions.
The Public Health Engineering Department was asked to ensure adequate drinking water facilities at the venue, while concerned agencies were directed to maintain cleanliness and sanitation in and around the stadium.
In addition to the Yoga Day celebrations, the Deputy Commissioner proposed organising a plantation drive after the event to promote environmental awareness and sustainability.
The meeting was attended by officers and representatives of various departments and organisations associated with the programme. The administration expressed confidence that coordinated efforts would ensure the successful observance of International Yoga Day in Kargil with broad-based community participation.
